WHAT IS PAN?

The Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a unique code which is issued to all taxpayers in the country. With the help of a PAN, all the tax-related information is recorded against it for a single entity. A PAN is unique to every individual and serves as proof of identification as well.

Once you have applied for a PAN Card, you can check the status through various means online, telephonically or through SMS.

CHECKING STATUS OVER A CALL

Applicants can check the status of their application by calling on the TIN (Taxpayers Identification Number) helpline number: 020-27218080. The applicant is required to provide the 15-digit acknowledgment number of the application.

CHECKING STATUS OVER SMS SERVICE

57575 is the number where the applicants are required to send the 15-digit acknowledgment number of their application through SMS. The applicant will receive an SMS with the desired information.

CHECKING STATUS ONLINE

Checking the PAN application status online requires various details. Listed below is the online process to check PAN application status.

APPLICATION TRACKING BASED ON ACKNOWLEDGEMENT NUMBER

  1. Visit the official NSDL website ‘PAN CARD TRACK’.
  2. Select ‘PAN-New/Change Request’ as application type from the drop-down menu.
  3. Type the acknowledgment number and submit your request.

The system will show the current application status.

APPLICATION TRACKING BASED ON DOB AND NAME

  1. Visit the official NSDL website ‘PAN CARD TRACK’.
  2. Select the application type as ‘PAN-New/Change Request’.
  3. Enter the name as filled in the application form (First, Middle and Last Name respectively).

Note: People other than the category ‘Individuals’ should write their name under the field ‘Surname or Last Name’ only.

  1. Enter the desired field which is either DATE OF BIRTH/ INCORPORATION/ PARTNERSHIP OR TRUST DEED/ FORMATION OF BODY INDIVIDUALS/ ASSOCIATION OF PERSONS and ‘Submit’.

The system will reflect the current status of the application.
