Tax Saving Implications

Investments in Equity Linked Saving Schemes (ELSS) are locked for 3 years. Since Axis Long Term Equity Fund is also an ELSS your investments in this fund will be locked in for 3 years from the date of purchase. You can claim tax rebates on your taxable income under section 80c of the Income Tax Act. You can avail a maximum of Rs 1,50,000 tax rebate in a financial year under section 80c. As per new government rules, you will incur LTCG( Long Term Capital Gains) Tax on selling your investments. If your gains exceed 1 lakh in the financial year your tax rate will be 10%. Any cess/surcharge is not included.

The fund invests majorly in large-cap company stocks, with an exposure of approximately 50% and nominally in midcap, with exposure of approximately 25%. The fund invests the remainder of the corpus in smallcap stocks or debt and other money market instruments. The fund presently invests heavily in the Finance, Automobile, Technology and Chemicals sector of the Indian Economy.

Fund Analysis

The consistency in generating alpha while stabilizing over risk volatility has not only proven it to be as one of the best funds on ELSS segment but throughout the equity category. This is visible in its asset size of 17000crore. The fund has an exposure of 30% midcap currently .The fund manager Jinesh Gopani has been associated to the fund since 2011 has been outperforming its peers over the long run. Though the fund suffered a setback during the last couple of years, its strong fund management team and a well proven investment mandate strengthens it fundamentally.
